As the Data Science Coordinator at City College of San Francisco, I've had the privilege of working with Ossie through our Data Ambassadors program. Ossie supports our Data Science students both in-person and online, providing guidance on assignments and mentorship. Their tutoring sessions cover topics such as Python programming, proportional reasoning, descriptive and inferential statistics, regression, and classification. Ossie creates a calm, supportive, and thoughtful learning environment, making a meaningful impact on our students. - Shawn W, CCSF Mathematics Dept.
About Ossie
Data Science Ambassador / Tutor, with students ranging from High School, Undergraduate to Continuing Education
Experience
I have 10 years experience in the technology industry in test engineering and programmatic test automation. I have worked for various startups, as well as with big tech (Meta, Twitter, Disney, Microsoft). I am currently a Data Science Ambassador at City College of San Francisco. I coach students on Python, statistical concepts and data visualization in Jupyter Notebooks. I have a strong background in math and a passion to encourage others that they can do it, too.
Background
Society often says you either have or don’t have a ‘math brain’, but this simply isn’t true. After reading The Limitless Mind (Jo Boaler), I was inspired to enroll in high level math and have found a way to excel. For many years, I had believed I didn’t have that ‘math brain’. In struggle or confusion on a new topic, challenging yourself to go beyond your current abilities, is what allows you to grow.
